The Year of Faith is a year celebrating catechesis, and the Apostles’ Creed is the most important of catechetical statements. Not only does it authoritatively encapsulate essential Christian teaching, it is also an act of worship that, along with the Our Father, defines us as Christians and, in its ecumenical sweep, unites us across different denominations.
The aim of The Essential Creed is to introduce the twelve articles of the Apostles’ Creed in the light of the Catechism of the Catholic Church in the hope of leading readers into that text, and so into an exploration of the teachings of the Church. Each article is introduced with a scriptural quotation and a summary of the teachings presented in the Catechism, with page references given for the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Compendium and YouCat.
